Cranberry plants

Johns Market Garden Cranberry plants are pot grown. Cranberry plants establish much better when bought as a container plant. A Cranberry plant – or Cranberry bush whichever terminology you prefer – is closely allied to the Blueberry. But a Cranberry plant will look nothing like it but prefers the same coniditons. Acid/ericaceous soil, nice and peaty. Cranberry bushes are low evergreens with glossy leaves and pretty pink bell flowers. Cranberry plants will grow in the shade, or in a 12” pot, as long as the soil is right. Cranberry plants are perfectly hardy and only grow to around 15”. Some varieties of Cranberry have a trailing habit, such as the species ‘Oxycoccos’ and others are more conservative like the hybrid Cranberry bush ‘Pilgrim’. All Cranberry plant varieties are partly self fertile but grow two for the best crop. The plum brilliant red berries cover the Cranberry plants and ripen in October. Very easily made into Cranberry jelly, juiced, or added to fruit stews and compotes! A Cranberry plant is a a different and welcome addition to the fruit growing area or patio.
